Unit2 - London Project
1. Introduction
This report is about a research of Clapham which is located in south of London, the post code is SW4, and then, to devise a scavenger hunt. Our group has 7people, each people choose the different thing to do research and design question of each choice. Then put it together to discuss every idea and think how to link each other and to do the game as well as possible and try to design the game which though this game let player to know this place in depth and what special is it has.
2. The process of research and how to design the game
The first step, before a group discuss, I focus to research gallery and some thing else interesting with the other member who is Jin Feng , , and designed 8 questions and link together. I am be good at graphic, so, I did 4 questions about Pond gallery, church, restaurant and telephone box. She be good at question about number, so she did other 4 questions.
We did research in depth in Clapham from some book and on the internet. A according to a book: “ Clapham 1503, that is ‘ homestead or enclosure near a hill or hills’, from old English *clop(a) and ham or hamm. The tow example of Clapham common( earlier called East and West Heath) .” The place of Clapham is very big, we found in the tube map, Clapham include
3 tube station, and we found most gallery, museum, library, and some interesting building or something else in the same place which is Clapham common. According to our research in internet, there have Clapham Art Gallery, Pond Gallery, Clapham Library, Clapham North studio for web designer and Studio Voltaire.
First question is about public telephone, there have a big bell and a public telephone box in frond of the bell which just be out of the Clapham common tube station, and it is significance of this place, that’s let me to think about a film ‘Emily’. I think we can use this public telephone to be the beginning of the game, we can ask the player waiting a call in frond of the telephone box and to tell the player how to do next step, this is our idea of first question.
Then we did research of Pond gallery,we found the name of paining is interesting, so I make a sentence used the name of paining, and tell player find out the shop which is this sentence come from, this is second question.
And then we found three special and famous of local restaurant from a book (Time Out, shop& services 2008), and designed a question of link test about some information which is a time of open and close, special menu and a name of each restaurant. This is the third question.
Finally, I found there have many churchs which is one of the significant of the object,( I designed 8 church and used line link it together, this question is ask player used this picture to find out what meaning of this 8 points. This is the fourth question.
When we put all the idea together, it is difficult to link all the idea, different people has so different opinion. Then we go to see all the place together again. And discuss again and again. They chose our idea of four, tow of mine about Pond gallery and public telephone box. During the discussing we have new idea, I and Jin Feng give the idea a bout green park, we designed a color sheet which is like a green sheet with a blue circle in it. This means green park have a blue circle swimming pool in it and ask player use this color sheet to find this green park.
3. Conclusion
I learn many things from this group game project. First thing is, I did research in depth, and let me know culture, landform, significant of the object of this place. Second, this project let me know, to do a good group work, cooperate and communication with each member are very important.
